When you sign up for BackupMyTree, we will ask for your name, email address, and a chosen password. If you sign up for any of our paid services, we will also need your current billing address, credit card number, and expiration date. Your BackupMyTree account information is password-protected with your chosen password so that you, and only you, have access to this personal information. You are solely responsible for keeping your chosen password confidential.
We recommend that the password you choose to protect your account should be a secure combination of non-personally identifiable letters and numbers.
BackupMyTree uses SSL (Secure Socket Layers) encryption, to protect pages with sensitive information, such as your account password and credit card number, whenever this information is transmitted between your computer and our servers.
We may keep a record of any communications you make with our Customer Support team. Your support issues are archived, in order to better serve you, in the event you should need further technical support from us in the future.
BackupMyTree stores the personal information you provide on servers that are located in a physically-secure facility. These machines are protected against unauthorized access by firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other additional security procedures intended to ensure that your information is not compromised. Only authorized BackupMyTree representatives are given access to your personal information on a strictly need-to-know basis.
When you protect trees with the BackupMyTree servers, your tree files remain private. We will never make your tree files accessible to the public or to third parties unless specifically authorized by you. Software communications used to upload tree files are always protected with 128-bit encryption during transmission. Additionally, all access to and downloads of your trees through your web browser are protected using 128-bit SSL encryption.
A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your web browser, and then stored on your computer's hard drive. These cookies help to improve your experience as a user of BackupMyTree, by providing you with a more personalized service. Cookies are not harmful to your computer. BackupMyTree never saves sensitive or personally identifiable information in cookies. If you modify your web browser to reject cookies from BackupMyTree, you may not be able to access the My Trees section of our web site.
BackupMyTree may also monitor and record your IP address for system administration, and fraud prevention purposes. IP addresses that we record are not linked or cross-referenced with any personally identifiable information, or distributed to third parties.
When you sign up for our paid service, we will encrypt your credit card information and transmit it to a third-party credit card processing company. These companies do not store, retain, or use your personal information for any other purpose.
Only at your request, BackupMyTree may share personal information with carefully chosen third-party providers to make products and services available to you.
BackupMyTree may be required by law to disclose personal information to proper law enforcement authorities; even though you might have requested that we don't share your information. This information may be necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against anyone who may attempt to cause injury to another's rights or property.
As a BackupMyTree member, we will notify you through the email address you have provided to us, about new features, products and promotions. You may choose to discontinue your subscription to these promotional messages by visiting the My Trees section of the BackupMyTree web site.
We occasionally contact subscribers to notify them of important service announcements that may affect their account. Since these announcements may contain vital information affecting your subscription, users are not able to unsubscribe. Users can completely discontinue use of our service by sending a message through our contact form at: http://www.backupmytree.com/contactus
MyHeritage is the owner and operator of the BackupMyTree service. MyHeritage may at its discretion transfer user accounts and family tree data on the BackupMyTree service to MyHeritage.com from time to time in order to provide users with value-added services, such as Smart Matches™. Such transfer will not occur without prior notification to each user by email of at least 30 days notice, and another notification of at least 7 day notice, and a third notification email immediately following such transfer. Users may opt out of a transfer by replying to any of those notification emails. If an account is transferred, it will be to a free, unlimited, private, password-protected account on MyHeritage.com. BackupMyTree users may delete their trees from MyHeritage at any time, or disable Smart Matches™ at any time.
